To be fair: The menu seems to be working much better

Thursday, December 6th, 2007

In and earlier post I had talked about how the menu broke often for me. Well, now it is time to report that I haven’t had any trouble for days with the menu, and not only it, it is updating automatically

Now, this could be a couple of things. I have installed the SDK for Flex as I’m learning it now, and in there you get a debug version of Flash 9, and perhaps this updated version simply works better. And I am of course on Linux, which can be nutty to deal with, especially on new software like Flex.

So yeah! It is updating automatically, as I am sitting here, I see new videos dropping in that were posted, ‘just now.’ This is a totally new thing for me, and I like it, so forgive me if this has been happening for you the whole time.

Great job Johann, on the whole, things are looking much better.

Thanks to Christine for your followup! I’m posting your video below.

UPDATE: I follow up your followup: the best bit is at the end when my Firefox crashes on video

Can’t play some videos

can’t play some videos
[Click on the picture to see it full size]

Here is what is happening. You see the videos in the menu, some have a thumbnail of the video next to them, and the others just have an icon with a webcam, and what appears to be a red circle with a white line in it, traditionally meaning stop, or error. The videos with the thumbnail play, the ones with the stop icon, won’t play. This just started happening. You will also notice that the selected video has not loaded, otherwise the progress bar would be gray showing how far it has loaded in the browser.

It is also happening in the public timeline. Not as much as in the shows. It is not YouTube videos. Maybe it is uploaded .flv files. Ahhh, that’s obvious now, and has to be it.

UPDATE: Also embedding the Seesmic I did on the subject:

And a video that won’t play for me, does the below video play for you?
